It Came Down To 2 Players: Ovechkin And Crosby.
Alexander Ovechkin was the team's +/- leader, and Assists leader. Before Crosby made a late surge, he was also the teams leading goal scorer for most of the Season. So an honorable mention to him.
But our MVP of the year goes to:
Sidney Crosby
Sidney was tied in the lead with Points, and our leading Goal scorer. If it was not for Sidney, Alex or Petr would not have had the season they had. Thanks Sidney for all your great play.
Libor Pivko
Our unsung rookie hero was Libor Pivko. in 65 games, he racked up 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points. Now for a player, thats pretty bad, but for a rookie who was never to make the NHL, to get 2 goals on the fourth line is something spectacular. Especially when playing mostly with AHL'ers, and getting very limited ice time.
He also notched one goal in the playoffs, which turned out to be a game 6 winner sending the Penguins to a game 7 Versus Toronto in which the Penguins prevailed.
Brooks Orpik
After a slow start to the season, Brooks really picked up his play when traded to New york, and was solid when reacquired. Brooks was a huge part of the defense this season, and im sure without him the Penguins would not have made it this far.
Sergei Gonchar
Sergei racked up 72 Points! For a defenceman! He was a huge factor in the success of the Penguin's first line with 53 assists and even 19 goals. Sergei has a booming shot and his offensive ability combined with his defensive ability is outstanding. Sergei was the defensive MVP for the All Star Game, and we are proud of him.
The Pittsburgh Penguins
Look at the playoffs. 'Nuff said
Alexandre Ovechkin
With a plus/minus of 33, which led the team, Alexander could play defense AND offense. Alex was a great all around player this year, and we hope he carries it onto the next season.
Jean Sebastian Gigueré
Jean was a huge part of our success in the playoffs. Coming off a trade is not very easy to do, and then having to face Toronto and New Jersey in the playoffs, even worst. Jean was a huge part of our team, and we wish him well in Florida.
Ovechkin and Crosby
Both tied at 118 points, these 2 were the biggest reason in the success of the Pittsburgh Penguins, regular season and playoffs. Thank you guys for the great effort. We compliment you with Jaromir Jagr.
Peter Bondra
Peter was taken off the first line after Vanek came. He didn't complain. He was taken off the first powerplay unit after clicking so much with ovechkin and crosby.. he didn't complain. He played with Selanne and enjoyed it to the fullest. He is a real classy guy, and we wish you welll on your retirement Peter.
Peter Bondra
With 132 Penalty minutes, leading the team, Petr stood up for Alex and Sidney when they were targeted by other teams. He was the one to protect them and that made him a great team player.
Roberto Luongo
Although Jean Sebastian Giguere did get us to the Semi finals game 7 Overtime, Roberto was there all season to make sure we got into the playoffs. When we traded him off, then got him back, he was mixed emotionally, but he still put out great efforts. We are sorry Roberto for the way we treated you, we hope to see you in a Penguins uniform again one day.
We would like to say Good bye and thank you to Peter Bondra, Chris Chelios, and John Leclair since they will be retireing.
We would like to say thank you to half the league for playing on the Penguins this year.
End of Conference.
